Currently, PCB or Printed Circuit Boards are employed in almost every electronic product around the world. Using conductive tracks, PCBs can easily connect electronic components. Most of them employ Surface Mount Assembly or Surface Mount Technology for producing electronic circuits with components mounted directly onto PCBs. The process has helped television sets to USB pen drives to evolve and become more affordable.
But producing them in your own organization can be a difficult, non-economic and time consuming process. This is where sub contract electronic manufacturers and assemblers can be beneficial. These sub contract manufacturers work on the design or formula and the requirements of the hiring firm to provide electronics assembly, including PCBs and SMTs.
The process involves 5 different stages, which are discussed below-
WIP Data Collection
The first stage involved in the process requires sub contract manufacturer to gather Work in Process or WIP data details. This involves gaining understand of what kind of assemblies are required, for what purposes these assemblies would be used, what the task or operation would require. For instance, the manufacturer has to understand whether the client requires SMT PCB assembly or a CCA- Circuit Card Assembly.
Accordingly, rest of the data is collection, which requires manufacturer to learn and understand the duration they have for output production.
Production of PCB assemblies and electronic manufacturing requires constant testing to ensure that the products are safe and have high quality. Therefore, the manufacturer needs to conduct tests in accordance to customer’s requirement. This stage can only be followed if the development lab of sub contract electronic manufacturer is fully equipped for testing and investigation of products.
This stage is complementary to the former stage of electronics manufacturing. This involves removal of individual I/Cs or rework on individual components in Surface Mount or SM technology. The stage requires assembling and dedicated programmed devices that can be used for replacing or rework the PCBs without scrapping the entire assembly.
Any electronic device, particularly PCBs are incomplete till they aren’t programmed for the device. This stage is possible when the sub contract manufacturer has in-house programming facilities to remark the devices. The stage is what provides cost savings to the hiring firm and enables it to enjoy advanced skills of employees in sub contract manufacturing company.
The last process involves finish product being customized and packaged ready for direct resale. This may require the manufacturer to opt for customized packaging processes, such as cartons, shrink wrap, blister packaging or poly tube. For better packaging, the stage also requires use of extensive stickers.
These five stages play a crucial role in designing, developing and providing electronics assembly to clients. Hiring firms must ensure that they choose a sub contract manufacturer after thorough research so that the products manufactured are in accordance to government’s directives.
