The Nine Castles Marathon – La Maratona dei Nove Castelli will be held in April 4-6, 2014 that is being organized in co-operation with the Marche Region Tourism Office and the Mayor of Arcevia, Italy.
The Marche Region Tourism Office and the Mayor of Arcevia are very happy to say that the event is on. This will be very exciting, the inaugural course of the Nine Castes Marathon (La Maratona dei Nove Castelli) that will take you on a journey through fascinating history and an area of Italy little known internationally … and even somewhat in Italy, too. With a base in the beautiful hilltop town of Arcevia in the region of Marche, the event will consist of an easy 10K run on the Saturday and a “marathon-distance destination run” on the Sunday. Together, the two events will take you to all nine of these hilltop, walled villages that during the medieval era were ruled and controlled by the town of Arcevia and today stand as wonderful places waiting to be discovered.
The onus will not be on gaining your fastest marathon time (although you never know!) but on enjoying a unique area and a weekend of running, making friends, seeing spectacular countryside, poking around medieval villages and towns (the nine castles during the runs, and plus Arcevia, with a guide), staying at local hotels and agriturismos and no doubt sipping some good wine. Pasta evenings will lead to more camaraderie and chances to further enjoy this region’s unique atmosphere.
An official website full of information is here http://wizardsportsevents.com/marathon.html and being finalized is a secure entry form that should be up and running by the first weekend of October.
Right now there are some details on our Facebook page, so please add New Italian Marathon to your Likes list (https://www.facebook.com/NewItalianMarathon), and please feel free to share that link and this email with your running friends.
