Google+ recently added an interactive layer to its +1 button. Users now occasionally see in their news feed posts that have been “recommended” by friends. And the former’s +1 activity updates may also be shown to people who have circled them.

There are quite a few articles explaining how the new +1 works. However, Mark Traphagen’s is the easiest to read.
