In this article we are going to share with you some findings from a recent study about the web presence of the top 100 independent YouTube channels.
Students from Columbia College Chicago carried out the study in Spring 2013. It is an extremely thorough piece of research; we have already shared with you their findings in terms of characteristics of the most popular YouTube channels and the most popular YouTube videos. The full set of data can be accessed here.
The 100 channels were selected in terms of how many subscribers they have. This was to eliminate the possibility that channels with viral views might skew the results. Independent channels are those that are not connected to large brands or music labels.
