It happens more often than we’d all like to admit. Some less than stellar site links back to us, often by copying and pasting one of our articles and presenting it as its own – with a well hidden link of attribution.
Not only is this annoying as all get out – as we’ve put in the time and effort to create that awesome content, it can also put you on Google’s naughty list. No bueno!
Sadly these less than legit sites can put a damper on our Google authority and good standing when these backlinks exist. What to do?
Check out the Disavow Links tool by Google.
Disavow Links allows you to tell Google to disregard certain incoming links (backlinks) to your website, such as any from spam sites or link farms, or from negative SEO attacks. You can clean up your link profile by using this tool on all the bad backlinks pointing to your website, which you can find using basic analytic or webmastering tools.
