February 2nd (Día de la Candelaria) | Vallarta Escapes

According to Jewish tradition, an infant is presented to God in the temple 40 days after his birth. February 2nd is 40 days after the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The festival of Epiphany, Three Kings Day (January 6th) in the Christmas season is when people share a Rosca de Reyes cake. Hidden in the cake are a number of plastic baby Jesus. Whoever finds the Niño Dios (baby doll Jesus) has the responsibility to prepare the next holiday fiesta, Dia de la Candelaria (blessing of seeds and candles).
