Happy, happy New Year, everybody!
As we kick off a brand-new year full of possibilities, we’ve got a few thoughts on what might lie ahead over the next 12 months:
While I’m not calling them “predictions,” there are a few developments that I could see having a big impact on the online marketing world in 2013:
- A shift in focus away from SEO and towards content development. In other words, online marketers will get tired of the cat-and-mouse game with Google (Penguin, anyone?) and start giving the search giant what it’s wanted all along: quality content that human beings actually want to read (or watch or listen to).
- Continued momentum for content curation. The amount of content created on the Web every single day is simply staggering. We need the individuals who step forward to explore the Web, haul in the best of the best content, and give us easy access to it in an easily digestible format.
- Big changes in the social media world. Yes, 2013 will be the year that Facebook loses its perch atop Mount Social Media. Since the company went public, there have just been too many changes that have ticked off too many people, especially businesses. So who will fill the void? Only time will tell …
