7 Key Factors For Improved Website Usability

Do you ever think about how websites are developed and what steps are taken to improve and perfect the experience of a site to make a visitor return again or perhaps recommend the site to friends and colleagues? Considering the average website user has an extremely limited attention span (oh stop looking at me that way), the need for effective website design that incorporates user experience best practices is of considerable importance in website design or re-design. In this article we look at Usability and Website Design.

I was recently asked to participate in the design revision for a public library website in the Toronto area. Specifically, I was asked to audit and evaluate the site page-by-page for web usability and to confirm functionality and effectiveness of their user experience. The results of my findings were to be presented to the web design team and the library staff to help them re-design a new website with appropriate design, navigation and architecture features that would improve user interface and ultimately user experience. The process combined both technical and marketing considerations.
