Let’s not pretend that everything is rosy. There are criminals in Mexico. Last I knew there were criminals in the US and Canada too, and I’ve lived in all three countries. If you find a truly idyllic spot, go there. But if you are concerned with safety, Lake Chapala is one of the safest places you will find.
