Speaking with many people and fellow curator’s there are often controversial issues arising about social media. This bit of news I am curating to me is good, (otherwise I wouldn’t curate it) Instagram has nice profiles now.
I want you to imagine something. Imagine that you are in a crowded restaurant, with five people four of them you like and one you cannot really stand. A friend of a friend we will just say. You are at the bar all standing around in a semi circle having a cocktail waiting for your table.
Imagine all the sight’s and sounds. Imagine the smell of the food. Imagine an attractive person walking by. Imagine it all and try to imagine just suddenly out of nowhere you go from not liking this person to automatically loving them. Probably not going to happen right. Or try to imagine just going to another venue, say the bowling alley and because you left the restaurant and went there, you see what a great bowler they are and your opinion of them does a complete three sixty.
This is the trap, of social media. If you go on a fools errand, you will end up nowhere. Social media and these platforms have revolutionized the way we communicate and are nothing but tools. They can never take the place of our feelings we have as human beings. Let me ask you another question. If say ten years ago you had a friend and every time you spoke on the phone they just droned on and on and on, how long would it take for you to say, “I gotta go”
My point with this whole thing is simply this, tools are only as good as what you are able to build with them. Build wisely.
You’ve asked for Instagram on the web and we’ve listened. Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out Instagram profiles on the web!
Your web profile features a selection of your recently shared photographs just above your profile photo and bio, giving others a snapshot of the photos you share on Instagram. In addition, you can follow users, comment & like photos and edit your profile easily and directly from the web. It’s a beautiful new way to share your Instagram photos!
To see your profile, or to explore a friend’s profile, simply navigate to instagram.com/[username]. For example, in order to view profile, @nike, you’d navigate to instagram.com/nike on the web. If you don’t see your profile yet, be assured that you’ll see it in the next few days. We’re rolling out profiles to everyone on Instagram over the course of this week. You can find more information on Instagram profiles below the photos in this post, as well as in our help center. ’s
