We’ve spent the past couple of days exploring the Marche region from our base in the Palazzo Donati in the heart of Mercatello sul Metauro in le Marche. It’s been raining quite a bit–which one might think is a bad thing–but then again wild mushrooms are being found in great quantities and people are lining up in restaurants to eat them.
The Marche region is known for the high quality of its white truffles, now being celebrated in truffle fairs currently starting up all over Italy. We attended the big fair in Sant’Angelo in Vado. Unlike the porcini, there isn’t a large quantity of the much sought-after white tubers yet, but it’s way early in the season.
And the picture? it’s the loggia we look up to each day as we leave our palazzo, here shown at night with roosting blackbirds.
