Cupramontana again hosts the famous Grape Festival from 4-7 October. This festival, which originated in 1928, not only celebrates the grape but also the whole fertility of the earth. The area is particularly famous for the Verdicchio grape, which has a rich and long tradition and the festival draws thousands of visitors each year eager to celebrate this lovely wine. Not only is there an abundance of the wine, there are many opportunities to see traditional dancing, especially the famous ‘saltarello‘; typical songs that are sung in the vineyards during harvest along with accordian and concertina music. The ‘Palio Del Verdicchio’ is a local competition of grape crushing by foot – strongly contested by the municipalities. The ‘Parade of Floats‘ is the highlight of the Festival, each locality has its own float decorated with winemaking themes. The stands – ‘cuprenese’ – are full of local wines and foods ready to be enjoyed.
