- Rosso Piceno, Failoni – 2009 Le Marche
Rustic Sangiovese and Montepulciano rubbed with leather and musk appeals to lovers of country wine, but a touch of Merlot tames the sauvage nature of this full red wine. Forest berry tossed in wild herbs on the nose make this a wine to grab when having dried sausages or ground meat with broccoli rabe, garlic and pasta.
Staff Pick Notes
Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and a touch of Merlot melded together to form a spicy earth based wine with a foundation of dark red fruit. With a year in Slavonian oak cask under its belt, this wine has matured into a round texturally pleasing accompaniment to a wide variety of foods Striking a nostalgic chord with my ancestors who emigrated several generations ago from Marche, I have no other choice but to gravitate towards pairing this with my next “Sunday Dinner”. It would be a great addition to one of my favorite dishes cavatelli with sausage and broccoli rabe or better yet my grandmother’s infamous braciola. A great rustic Italian wine that is an ideal suitor for your next pasta night or sausage and peppers before the game.
