Please forgive the off-topic post today. Our regularly scheduled program of cutting-edge social media advice for small businesses will resume next Tuesday. Promise.
For a while now, I’ve been thinking about starting a personal blog. I actually had one years ago (in my pre-entrepreneurial lifetime) and thoroughly enjoyed caring for and feeding it.
And then life got busy.
So, for some reason, the idea has been creeping back into my psyche: A place where I can share random musings on life, business, football, killer shoes, and throwing the perfect left hook.
And it’s been filed away under “Stuff I’m Totally Going to Do When Life Quits Being So Danged Busy.”
Then, over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a Vision Board Party hosted by Houston Woman Magazine. While cutting and pasting away—with actual scissors and glue, not with a mouse—I realized how many of my clippings had to do with creativity.
Clearly my inner creative was trying to tell me something, and it probably went something like this: “Put down the freakin’ business plan and give me some playtime!”
So earlier today, I started a simple little blog on Tumblr called Notes From the Lapdesk, where I’ll be posting … stuff. Whatever pops into my brain that I think might be useful/amusing/thought-provoking to readers … or not. No SEO keywords. No newsjacking. No editorial calendar. No concerns about how many hits, comments, or social shares get racked up.
I hope you like it, and if you don’t, that’s OK too.
Because as much as I love you guys, I’m not writing it for you. I’m writing it for an audience of one: the quiet little girl playing with her crayons in the far corner of my soul.
