Visual content has been on a rapid upward trajectory over the last 12 months. Social media platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram have taken the social media world by storm. Instagram announced in July that it had acquired 80 million users.

Tom George: Although the visual image and moving image is leading the pack in sharing, let’s not forget that the written word is what adds clarification and the underlying subtext to topics and creates discussion.

In order to be purveyors of truth we must not overlook how important this is. One cannot simply operate from an emotional response which is probably what the underlying reason is for the popularity in the visual sensation arena. The images and video ilicit a strong emotional impulse in us. An urge to share.

Not to say this is a bad thing, simply put we must be certain that as we grow our communities and online collective intelligence that we do not simply revert back to somehow antiquated tendancies. Let’s face it images were probably drawn and shared on cave walls before we could speak.

Also let’s remember that in most major religions the fundamental core belief system is the written word. There for truth is the written word, such as to say this is the word of God. Unfortunately what is popular today is often not necesarily noble or trustworthy. Just some food for thought.

With that being said enjoy this fantastic article written by Jeff Bullas who certainly knows his stuff.
