Aldo Cifola rarely seems to miss a beat these days, certainly not when it comes to his flagship Verdicchio ‘Mirum’ anyhow. Sure the harvest was perhaps not as benevolent as 2006, yet still delivering the prettiest of fruit, complete with clean, bright, focused mealy lemon and floral notes. The palate swells with pride and ample mouth filling succulence; delicately structured and yet so juicy, so oggi/now! Full of sun, of fun, of drink me now qualities, yet a serious wine all the same underneath, so don’t be deceived; tuck a bottle away and you’ll be amazed. Drinking now till 2017, along with pheasant pate or prosciutto.

La Monacesca, Mirum Riserva 2007 Verdicchio di Matelica – Dry and savoury, dried herbs and herbal tea. Delicate balance but finishes with lovely phenolic grip.
