Summer, yes. Senigallia, Italy – double yes. The XIII edition of the International Festival of American Music and Culture of the 40’s and 50’s, better known as Summer Jumboree, will make your body move from the 4th until the 12th of August.
This year, guests like the king of the steel guitar Johnny Farina, the rocker to the bone Freddy Cannon, Narvel “the Marvel” Felts and straight from Bill Haley & His Comets’s band, Mr. Marshall Lytle will be part of this big free party. Yes, it’s free, and there aren’t just “those four americans” to hold the stage. Burlesque workshops and night shows, guitar workshops, 200 hours of free gigs and DJ set in the main square of Senigallia, Hawaiian parties down to the beach at sunset time and if you are a real night owl, the club Rotonda A Mare will make you dance all night long always at the rate of rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, doo wop, rhythm ‘n’ blues, country, hillbilly, western swing, jive, and boogie. Furthermore throughout the festival, from the 4th to the 12th, the city centre of Senigallia will be home also of two Busker bands – red-hot jukebox boys ready to play under the sun. And if you have enough of the beach you can migrate to the Rock on the Hills event that offers a “gita al castello” (trip to the castle) for who wants to discover the inlands of Le Marche.
During the last night, precisely The Notte Diffusa on Saturday 11 August, the festival will embrace new areas of the city widening the range of dancing for the 22 piece Abbey Town Jump Orchestra Big Band and the other artists.
It’s time to dust off your suspenders together with your grandaddy’s trousers (yes, those blue baggy trousers with thin white vertical lines) and head to Senigallia. But don’t worry if you haven’t the proper “equipment”, once there the vintage markets will help you out to create your personal ’50s look.
Ah! Warm your feet up, there’s even a Dance camp.
