Re-enacting historical events has long been a popular activity in Le Marche; many towns annually stage these visitations to the past with great effect for the public. They bring history to life in many forms; from simple religious ceremonies commemorating a holy artefact to the superb theatrical effect of spectacles such as palios which give supremacy to a particular area of a town for the year or to the re-enactment of ancient games. These re-enactments are not only for public entertainment; they are thoroughly researched to give a true insight to the history and significance of the Le Marche region which is still very important. Most participants are local inhabitants who feel it is vital to continue their inheritance, hence the ages of those involved continues down the generations – as it should and hopefully will, for many years to come.
