Ever since Memorial Day, I’ve been experiencing an unusual phenomenon here at Resonance headquarters.
Quiet. Not total quiet, but compared to the breakneck pace we’ve been working at for the last few months, it’s remarkably calm.
So besides enjoying some much-needed downtime on evenings and weekends, I find myself able to get around to a few “oughta-do’s” that will help add value to my social media presence.
Here are a few you might want to try:
1. Plan, plan, plan
With the midpoint of 2012 just around the corner, this is the perfect time to look at your social media goals for the year and see how you’re doing. If you need to kick things up a notch, decide what specifically you need to do, and then make a plan.
For example, let’s say you decide to add a monthly video to your social postings. What do you need to do to make that happen?
- Buy a good video camera and a tripod?
- Brainstorm topics for your videos?
- Learn to use video editing software?
- Study up on best practices for posting on YouTube?
- Make a few practice videos to get used to being on camera?
Break each initiative down into individual tasks, then get each task on your calendar or to-do list.
2. Review and update every social profile
You probably see your Facebook Page on a daily basis, but what about your “home bases” on Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, FourSquare, and Google+? Next time you’re having a quiet afternoon, take time to visit each profile and make sure it’s accurate and current.
3. Ramp up social engagement
It’s so easy to get into “publisher mode” on our social sites that sometimes our engagement suffers. A quiet week is a great time to rekindle those social relationships that may have been neglected during the busy spring months. Next time you’re on Facebook, Twitter, and other social sites, take a few minutes to like, comment on, share, retweet, repin, or repost others’ content … or just drop in and say hi.
