Andrea and Caroline is a husband and wife team that run Tenuta Gorgiana in Camerino, Le Marche where they have lived permanently since 2006 with two children.
Tenuta Gorgiana offers painting holidays in an eighteenth-century, stone-built farm buildings, in the ‘Borgo’ style typical of the region. The studios sit on the side of a hill with views across a little river and up to the fortified hill town of Camerino. There guests can enjoy a creative atmosphere, sunny weather, fabulous food and go home feeling relaxed and enriched.
Andrea and Caroline like to encourage a casual atmosphere in their studios where artists can explore their creativity and try out new tricks. By gathering several artists together they find that they catch ideas from one another, and that experienced artists can learn from beginners as well vice versa. With a tutor ratio of 1:4 there is always someone to help, encourage and suggest new avenues.
When not working, their visitors are welcome to relax in the extensive gardens, with many views, exhaust themselves in the little gym, take a dip in the pool, browse through the art reference library in the sitting room or chat with new friends.
Caroline stated to drawing and painting late, after a Psychology degree at Durham University. She taught herself by attending numerous life drawing classes, and drawing soon became an abiding passion. She studied mural painting and trompe l’oeil in Brussels at the famous specialist art school, Institute de Peinture Van der Kelen. Subsequently she worked for several years as a mural painter in England and abroad. After briefly joining the circus she became a scene painter and was awarded a place at the Motley Theatre Design School under the tutelage of Margaret Harris and the filmmaker Danny Boyle, amongst others. She further developed an artistic career designing for theatre and TV, and directing films.
She have continued, over the last 20 years, to teach adult drawing in various London institutions.
Caroline will be teaching the Drawing for Beginners courses and co-teaching the Landscape courses.
