The medieval village of Cistena, located in a charming panoramic position on a hill 1 km far from the ancient town of Macerata Feltria, is part of the Montefeltro, a land contested between Malatesta from Rimini and the Duke of Urbino, and it guarded the forced access to the Apsa valley and borders of the territory of Counts of Piagnano.

Indeed in the village there’s a tower of the XII-XIII century and it’s walls that, with the annex buildings, was the court of a local noble. This area keeps signs of older settelement maybe from roman time, when the village was a flourishing farm where seeds, wheat and so on all the land offered are retained, in ditches dug in sandstone and recently discovered. After the passage of the village to the Dukes of Urbino and than to the Papal State, the village has finally the function of rural residence so that at the start of 1900 there were about 90 people.
Inside the main building was build a big classroom also for children from the near villages. It was a place full of life also for the presence of a water deposit, from which the inhabitants of the area draw the water.

The village is predisposed to receive its guests and give them a agreeable restful and cultural holiday in the old residences at their disposal or let them to taste the local cuisine in the hamlet restaurant.
