On visiting Italy, Madeline and Tim were captivated by the beauty of the landscape in Le Marche. In Montelparo they were fortunate enough to fulfil their long held aspiration to renovate an old Italian building and to create a small, luxury, intimate hotel which incorporates their own style and taste. Every aspect of the hotel is individually designed, taking into consideration its essence, charm and uniqueness.
Fundamental to their philosophy is discreet and exemplary service, making each and every guest feel valued. The aim of the hotel is to provide both an excellent base for exploring the numerous attractions of the region and a sanctuary for those days when a less active itinerary is called for. For guests who require additional pampering spa treatments can easily be arranged.
All of this encapsulates the ethos of Hotel Leone, making it the perfect choice for an escape to Le Marche.
Hotel Leone is a handsome building which originates from the 15th century. The building originally consisted of two floors, the lower of which has an outstanding vaulted ceiling authentic to that era. The upper floor was added in the 20th century when the building was converted to a hotel and restaurant and was known as Taverna del Leone. The hotel consisted of nineteen guest bedrooms but only two bathrooms. It ceased functioning as a hotel in 1986 when the owner retired and the restaurant continued to operate for a few more years. Since that time the building remained as if frozen in time with everything from furniture down to the smallest items being left in situ.
Madeline and Tim discovered this gem in 2008 and have since dedicated their time, love and resources into restoring the building to its former glory whilst updating it with the facilities essential to the modern traveller. As a vital part of the restoration they have incorporated as many environmentally friendly aspects as possible into the design and fabric of the building, with great care being taken to be as eco-friendly as possible using solar power energy, locally sourced materials and rainwater collection where feasible.
