The new Facebook Timeline layout for Pages doesn’t go live across the board until March 30, but some brands have decided not to wait.
Here are a few of my faves from this first wave of Timeline Pages:
The gorgeous cover photo on Coca-Cola’s new Facebook Page makes it very clear that this brand is not about drinking soda. It’s about life, past and present. I also love their use of the Timeline itself: they’ve filled in Milestones all the way back to the company’s founding in 1886.
Takeaway: Think beyond the obvious.
2. The Blog Squad
Denise Wakeman’s Blog Squad Facebook Page is crowned by a skyline photo emblazoned with the simple message “Visibility = Opportunity,” a beautiful use of the Cover Photo space. Also notice that her About content begins with an http link to her website. Nice touch, Denise!
Takeaway: Simplicity is power.
Dove has done more for the image of real women than any other brand in history, and the cover photo on their Facebook page celebrates this fact. Just smiling faces of healthy, happy women, and not a skincare product in sight.
Takeaway: Don’t discount the power of faces.
4. Style House Realty
Our list would’t be complete without at least one small, local business, and Style House Realty’s Facebook Page is proof-positive that SMBs can rock Timeline just as hard as the big boys. I love the outside-the-box thinking that went into their Cover Photo, which focuses on possibilities rather than pretty pictures of houses.
Takeaway: Remember, your Cover Photo doesn’t have to be a photo.
It should come as no surprise that the 800-lb gorilla of the socialverse has made the Timeline transition with gusto. The Starbucks Facebook Page features not only a simple, beautiful photo of coffee beans, but also icons for its tabs that match the brand’s signature color.
Takeaway: Every element counts, not just your Cover Photo.
