Facebook is at risk of driving its users to rival Google+ thanks to its over-sharing, according to some press reports.
Mark Zuckerberg’s network has come under fire of late due to its Social Reader function, which presents users with a list of news articles their connections have read recently.
They are naturally intrigued by these headlines and click on them, expecting to be taken to the article. However, in order to reach the article the user must install Social Reader, which thereby shows their connections everything they read. For some, this is just too much sharing and could be seen as an invasion of privacy.
Some industry commentators – such as Christina DesMarais, writing for PC World – have suggested this may well drive users to share their social media content on other networks.
