Robert Scoble: I like the new ads that started running today for Google+

It’s interesting how far Google has fallen, though. For the first eight years of Google’s life they knew they didn’t need to do ads (and execs at Google used to tell me they despised running ads promoting Google, and even despised doing PR). Why? They said they just needed to build a better product and would rather take the resources that such activities need and plow them into hiring engineers and building better products. Interesting how times have changed now that Google isn’t ahead in the marketplace and is chasing a younger competitor. Now they need a new strategy: spend money convincing people they should try Google too. They also sponsored a stage at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and I’m sure that Google is going to spend lots to get Google+ known as a household name.
