Plan A is build a social network if you have any aspirations of running for elected office. President Obama and his team of computer geeks set the new rules. The machine that is a political campaign has had an overhaul, and it looks nothing like it used to look. The days of relying on cold calls and enlisting the neighborhood kids to pass out pamphlets is now replaced by Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.
If you’re running for office, build a social network as quickly as you can. It’s a must. After Obama showed us all in 2008 how important and effective social networking was in his campaign, the Republican leadership put the word out to his team. He realized they needed to build a social network and to use it as effectively as the 2008 Campaign for Change used theirs. The Republicans drowned in the tidal wave that was the Obama social network, but they’ve learned their lesson.
