Javier Bardem confirmed this week on “Nightline” he will play the villain in the next James Bond film, temporarily referred to as Bond 23 (though rumored to be titled Skyfall).Bardem, 41, discussed the role as far back as February with the director, Sam Mendes, but only just made his role official. At the time the Spanish actor said, “They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic,” Bardem said of Mendes’ approach. “I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing.” His most notable performance, of course, was playing the nemesis in No Country for Old Men, as relentless hitman Anton Chigurh, which won him an Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor.” Bardem also recently entered talks to voice a cartoon baddie in Despicable Me 2.
