In a reversal of recent patterns, nine of the top 10 shows among networks’ target audience of young adults were sitcoms, a list that included the first episode of CBS’ Two and a Half Men without Charlie Sheen and double doses of hits Modern Family, Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother used as premiere-week stunts.

Ratings for The Middle and The Simpsons also climbed from last fall, but several new comedies will face tests this week. CBS won the week and had the three top newcomers overall in 2 Broke Girls (nearly 20 million viewers, helped greatly by Men’s record 28.7 million) and dramas Unforgettable and Person of Interest. Fox took its first premiere-week crown among young adults and posted two of that crowd’s three biggest new series, self-starting comedy New Girl and Simon Cowell’s singing contest The X Factor.
