Welcome and thank you for reading The Internet Billboards. There is a reason why mobile media is such a hot topic right now. It is one of the five pillars of success and the future of connecting to the web. Probably by the year 2015 if not much sooner, mobile will be the way most access the Internet for the information they want. With such hot items as the Apple ipad and the tablet market heating up, not to mention html5, things are really going to continue to heat up in mobile. It is important to stay current and use this mobile media growth to your advantage, instead of ignoring the trend and allowing yourself  to be put at a competitive disadvantage. LG Optimus 3D and Optimus Pad details revealed, announcement coming at Mobile World Congress

With the 2011 Mobile World Congress kicking off in Barcelona today, the news on the latest portable devices is going to start coming fast and furious soon. The latest news centers on LG, which we already knew would be showing off its glasses-free Optimus 3D phone. Now there’s word straight from a press release that gathered attendees will also be getting a look at the Optimus Pad, the latest contender in the growing tablet personal computer race. The release provides specs for each device too, so let’s take a closer look.

Mobile Payments: The Next Battleground for Google, Apple

As we enter 2011, one of the hottest mobile topics is shaping up to be mobile payments. Not only does it have the potential to stimulate growth in mobile shopping, but parallel areas of mobile development like gaming, social media, LBS, and even search.

This recently culminated in reports that Apple will integrate near field communication (NFC) into the iPhone 5, expected in June. NFC involves a chip that transmits a short range, high frequency signal in order to communicate with nearby devices or transfer payments.

This came after Starbucks last month installed point of sale (POS) mobile payment systems at 6,800 U.S. locations. Though it’s not NFC, the easy to use system lets users swipe their phone screens under a POS barcode scanner to execute quick transactions.

Time FX.

A universal app from Autodesk, this is a clock app with more than 60 themes and three different layouts.  Free.

Camera Mic.

Use the iPhone’s microphone, either on the headset or the device itself, to activate the camera’s shutter.  A new version is waiting to be approved which fixes previous problems.  $0.99/£0.59.

Ford Making Mobile Marketing The Cornerstone of its 2011 Vehicle Advertising

On the eve of the 2011 Chicago Auto Show at the Windy City’s legendary McCormick Place, Ford Motor Co. announced that social media and other “new advertising strategies” will be employed to market all of the car-maker’s 2011 vehicles.Jim Farley, chief marketing executive at Ford, told those gathered at the Auto Show pre-opening revue that the only media that grew in 2009 and 2010 was online and mobile. As a result, Ford will change how it reaches both current and prospective Ford customers.
